Jill Kraus, Chairman of the Board
Jill Kraus is Chairman of the Public Art Fund Board of Directors. She serves on the board of World Studio Foundation, which provides scholarships to minority and economically disadvantaged students in the visual arts. She also serves on the boards of the California Institute of the Arts, the New Museum, and The Museum of Modern Art, where she is Chair of the Media & Performance Committee and a member of the Executive Committee. She and her husband Peter co-chair the Friends of the Carnegie International, the oldest international art exhibition in the U.S. Mrs. Kraus is a former design director of Avon Products. Prior to Avon she was vice president of design for Swarovski Jewelry.
Susan K. Freedman, President
Susan K. Freedman has served as President of Public Art Fund since 1986. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Municipal Art Society and is the Vice Chair of the Board for the City Parks Foundation. Previously, Freedman served as Mayor Bloomberg’s Representative on the Board of Trustees at the Museum of Modern Art as well as on the Department of Cultural Affairs’ Advisory Committee. She has also served as a member of the Board of WNYC Radio, was a member of the Brown University President's Leadership Council, and was a jury member for the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation’s World Trade Center Memorial Competition. Freedman has spoken at numerous conferences, contributed to myriad publications, and in 2005 was awarded Municipal Art Society’s Evangeline Blashfield Award.
Nicholas Baume, Director and Chief Curator
Nicholas Baume joined Public Art Fund as Director and Chief Curator in 2009. A native of Australia, his curatorial career began there with Kaldor Public Art Projects and later the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. He was Contemporary Curator at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut, before moving to Boston to join the Institute of Contemporary Art as Chief Curator. Baume has curated more than fifty exhibitions with a wide range of significant international artists at different stages of their careers. Author of several major exhibition catalogs, he is a frequent public speaker on contemporary art, and has contributed essays and interviews to numerous publications.
